Always be prepared for the inevitable

Good advice.

Kitchen is mostly done.  Let’s see some photos!

Fun installation facts:

  • We had to call the factory repair guy to come out and fix the dishwasher.  His fix?  Show the plumber where the power button is.  (For future reference, it’s on top of the door.)
  • When installing a dishwasher it is important to connect all the pipes tightly so water doesn’t spray everywhere.
  • It’s is very easy for people to confuse “oven handle should be on the right side” and “hinge should be on the right side.  I’ll let you know when we get a new and correct oven from the factory.
  • No one (including us) will read the stove manuals before hand to find out they it needs to be on it’s own circuit.

The kitchen is usable, and does look great.

We continue our goal of following in our friend Mike’s footsteps: I
have started volunteering one day a week at Carlos’ Kindergarten.

At the first one I sat at a table with 4 or 5 students and we traced
out the numbers from 1 to 31 for an October calendar.  I chose not to
point out that we are already in the middle of October and should have
done this last month.  There was a huge amount of variance between the
students.  Some had no problem, and frankly had better penmanship than
I do.  Others really struggled and didn’t finish.

There were other tables/stations where they did other parts of the
calendar.

One funny thing was that they mixed up students from all three of the
Kindergarten classes.  So Owen and Carlos were in the same room even
though they normally have different teachers.

You may ask where we got our beautiful bamboo floor. Well, here it is:

It actually installed a bit darker than I thought.
